A neo-conceptual artist, Wim Delvoye is widely known for his contemporary art where he blurs the line between the art of the past and the digital realm of today's modern art practice. Wim Delvoye has developed an art that offers a reinterpretation of works of art from the past while taking a lucid and amused look at contemporary society. He explores art history, Gothic cathedrals and sculptures of the 19th century while revealing the beauty of everyday objects. The highly ornamental motifs and ornaments are used not so much as decorative quotations, but as patterns of value and permanence in modern times.
Wim Delvoye's work was shown at DocumentaIX and the Venice Biennale in 1999. Several emanations of Cloaca were shown at MuHKA(Antwerp, BE), Migros Museum (Zurich, CH), dePower Plant (Toronto, CA), New Museum (New York,USA), culminating in the presentation of CloacaProfessional at Tasmania's MONA.
