Santiago Vélez holds a Ph. D. in Advanced Studies in Artistic Productions from the University of Barcelona (UB) with a master's degree in Artistic Production and Research (UB) and a master's degree and specialization in Aesthetics from the National University of Colombia (UN). Plastic and visual artist whose research interests revolve around the idea of water as a space of environmental, political, economic and social confluence. With his artistic practice he has developed projects, exhibitions, research, residencies, curatorships and teaching, and his research and creative work has been recognized with different distinctions such as scholarships and awards.
He has obtained different distinctions and scholarships, mainly from the Ministry of Culture, has participated in the most relevant salons and events in the country and has had more than 20 solo exhibitions nationally and internationally, such as in Spain, Argentina and Holland. Some of his works are in public collections such as Banco de la República, Museo de Antioquia, Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín, Museo Universitario Universidad de Antioquia; and in private collections such as Arte al Límite Latinoamérica, Suramericana de Seguros, Cementos Argos, Fundación Sofía Pérez de Soto, Fundación Fraternidad Medellín, among others.
He has worked as a research professor at several universities in Medellín, was co-director and founder of Casa Tres Patios (www.casatrespatios.org), directed the Centro de Desarrollo Cultural de Moravia (centroculturalmoravia.org), is artistic director of the Fundación Viajelogía (www.viajelogía.org) and is currently curator of urban art in the city of Medellín.
