Since 2006, Raoul Deleo has been mapping an undiscovered continent called Terra Ultima. Like an explorer, Deleo intrudes more and more into the area and draws a report of the nature and animal species he encounters. Gradually it turns out to be more and more a journey within himself. “Every man contains within himself a ghost continent.” — Loren Eiseley.
The discovered species are named by Latin teacher (Montessori Lyceum) Anneke Korevaar and emeritus professor of Latin (VU) Aad Kleywegt. Deleo regularly receives awards for his work, he received two Dutch Design Awards, the Annual Illustration Award, AFK award, BNO award and an ADCN award.
His successful book Terra Ultima from 2021 is now in its eighth edition and won the Gouden Penseel 2022, De Woutertje Pieterse Prijs 2022, and was nominated for the Jan Wolkers Prize 2021.
