Klaas Gubbels is one of the Netherlands' most important contemporary artists. Gubbels makes paintings and drawings, spatial and graphic work, using a multitude of techniques and materials, including lithograph, woodcut, wall painting, collage, objet trouvé, glass and metal. Klaas Gubbels looks for his subjects or motifs in the purest, platonic form.
Klaas Gubbels' work is included in many collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.
Iconic works in Rotterdam are 'The croquettes in the restaurant are on the small side' with C.B. Vaandrager in Hotel New York and 'In the distance a swan' on the Provenierssingel.
For many years Gubbels was associated as a teacher at the Academy of Visual Arts in 'his' Rotterdam.
