Patrick Ceyssens is an independent visual artist, coordinator of the Visual Visionaries research group and lecturer in visual thinking at PXL-MAD School of Arts and Hasselt University.
For Ceyssens, images are not merely carriers of meaning, but thought processes in themselves. His focus on visual instability ties in with an approach to translation that emphasises disruption rather than seamless transfer. At the same time, our language of knowledge and insight is strongly interwoven with visual metaphors. And what cannot be seen often proves to be just as meaningful as what is visible. It seems as if, in the artwork, memory mourns what escaped our perception. His techniques are therefore also artistic instruments that respond to the complex workings of imagination, perception and memory.
