For Wido Blokland, art is "grabbing" the intangible; that which both ignores and underlies all forms. Connecting science, philosophy, mythology, spirituality and imagination, works emerge that open up the breathless space of infinite consciousness. His work shows in a playful, visual and writing way the intimate intertwining of man and "world".
Fixed scientific assumptions, our view of body and mind, are undermined in the work of this artist. His images "illuminate". That is: they shed light on the "lucid" character of reality as well as on our own crucial role in the creation of every image. Observer, perception and the observed, are essentially an inseparable whole within a multiple reality. It is poignant how the often spatial works with some simple parts and interventions can show what is not and what is . After all, uncovering the invisible, or intangible, is the essential motive of the artist.
Wido Blokland was trained in philosophy and the visual arts. He also taught at the Sint-Lucas art academy in Brussels. He works from his studio in Brittany (FR).
