Eva Dixon (b. 2000, Waratah, Australia) is an Australian artist based in London. Working across assemblage, sculpture and painting, their practice examines homo-eroticism in sport and pornography, lesbianism, the space race and industrial culture. Dixon brings together provocative reinterpretations of sporting moments, such as goal celebrations and tackles, with materials that suggest seduction, fetishism and desire. Aluminium sheets, walnut frames, darkroom filters, buckles, clips and leather straps become part of their visual language, alongside rockets constructed from stolen street signs and gifted electrical spools.
An avid collector of discarded industrial objects, vintage football and boys’ magazines, pins and playing cards, Dixon treats materials as a central element of their research. By reworking and combining these objects, they construct imaginative, often sexually charged narratives. Personal advertisements seeking discreet or highly specific sexual encounters also inform their practice. These references address the disappearance of historical artefacts within the wider LGBTQ+ community and the importance of fiction-making as a means of preserving and transmitting experiences across generations.
