Philippe Vandenberg (1952-2009) his oeuvre is characterised by an introspective quest, in which various literary, philosophical and art-historical references help arrive at a temporary state of wonder. Through the use of word, image and symbol, Vandenberg challenges the ethical context of the artwork. This places the works in current affairs and creates a visually recognisable dialogue with the society in which the work is located. Universal motifs such as war, religion and mobility, undergo a critical transformation with Vandenberg.
