Eva Spierenburg (1987) is interested in the vulnerability of our physical being, the relationship between the body and space, and in the painting as an object. Spierenburg works in various media and techniques. She makes object paintings, sculptures, installations, videos, and also works with performance. Performativity and physicality are the basis of all her work.
Spierenburg's object paintings are almost bodies, with skin-like membranes of thin woven cloth. The works look organic and carry the traces of their own becoming. Remnants of clay, but also deliberately applied drawn lines or stitching.
Recent solo exhibitions include 'disappearance in slow motion' at Centraal Museum Utrecht; 'holding a fish to avoid sinking' at CINNNAMAMON, and 'floating hands and fake mountains' at CEAC, Xiamen, China.
