Freek Drent studied at the Willem De Kooning Academy 'drawing and painting' in Rotterdam, where he also experimented with photography and moving and inflatable objects.
After graduation, he became a member of the art initiative Expohenk. During that period he often worked with sculptor Ron van der Ende. Within the Expohenk group they felt a connection in work and interest and they realized extensive projects such as "The industrial landscape" which consisted of 16 individual sculptures and took four years to complete. Furthermore, installations for exhibitions were realized, such as; "Bar" - CBK Rotterdam, "House" - KunstRai Amsterdam and "Car" - Kunsthal Rotterdam. Some of these installations are now in well-known art collections such as “Huis”, in the Caldic Art Collection and “Bar” in the collection of the Groninger Museum.
Together with Stella van Voorst van Beest, he realized a number of video projects and installations that were shown at RAM, De Kunsthal, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and IFFR Rotterdam.
The exhibiting is alternated by long trips to Eastern Europe, America and Asia.
The collages arose from the installations of found objects, clippings, travel photos and drawings. He works on this, such as on a painting, with a certain amount of material from his archive, sometimes technically or anatomically, such as construction material from car, repair and interior handbooks or organic and anatomical parts, for example from the 16th century; "The Humani Corporis Fabrica". (Andreas Vesalius). and creates still lifes.
