Marjolijn van den Assem studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (WDKA) in Rotterdam, exhibited (choice from 1995) at the Nederlandse bank, Rheinisches Landes Museum, Bonn, Museum het Valkhof, Boijmans van Beuningen, Frans Hals Museum, Museum Gouda, Museum de Wieger, Stedelijk Museum Aalst, Museum Modern art Arnhem, Dordrechts Museum, Stedelijk museum Schiedam, Gorkums Museum, Museum MARTa Herfort, Nietzsche Dokumentationszentrum Naumburg (Saale) (D) Ahlen Art Museum, Chabot Museum, Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain, Strasbourg. She has received stipends and project grants on several occasions, and was a member of the CBK committee and the Rotterdamse Schouwburg Image 'Beeldspoor'. Marjolijn also made commissioned designs and gave lectures in the context of the Nietzsche works and her book presentations. Recently (2017) she gave lectures and guided tours in the Chabot Museum Rotterdam at the exhibition INLEVEN / ENLIJVEN (her solo) at the exhibition 'Marjolijn van den Assem meets Henk Chabot' . Her work is among others in the collections of Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, and De Nederlandsche Bank Amsterdam (see CV) and many important private collections.
Various exhibitions are planned in 2021, including in the Nietzsche Dokumentationszentrum Naumburg (Saale) (D), LEBENSREIZ (solo) and is she working on a new book.
