We’re kicking off the new season with a meeting between Afroditi Terzi and Marja Kennis.
We know Marja Kennis for the porcelain works she creates using impressions of organic materials such as leaves, vegetables, and fruit, with the occasional imprint of a finger (in the series *Lost Birds*) or a toe. We’ve seen skulls (*Trophees for veggies*), birds (*Lost Birds*), and plants featured in her work. Her new series is based on the idea of “Fly on the wall.” Objects and life forms from your immediate indoor surroundings that bear witness to what is happening there.
Afroditi Terzi picks up on the idea of space. She is reading, writing, and painting while reflecting on “negative space,” and on empty space as something active—a space that enables and supports other spaces and objects. She explores all the things that haven’t happened, and how they exist in the form of absences, traces, and shadows. Reality and existence consist of both events and non-events, or mere possibilities.
