Traces of Common Ground
Eva Steynen Gallery is participating at Art Antwerp 2025, taking place from 11 to 14 December 2025 at Antwerp Expo. This boutique fair, organized by Art Brussels, brings together a curated selection of international galleries in a focused and professional context.
For this edition Eva Steynen Gallery presents a group show TRACES OF COMMON GROUND - bringing together four artists — Benoît Félix, Johannes Ulrich Kubiak, Ken’ichiro Taniguchi, and Wannes Lecompte — whose practices explore the subtle traces left behind: gestures, marks, and impressions that carry memory, emotion, and human experience. Across painting, drawing, and sculpture, these artists examine how small, delicate traces can speak of presence, narrative, and meaning, transforming everyday materials and forms into sites of reflection.
Felix treats the drawn line as both image and object, blurring the boundary between pictorial illusion and physical presence. Kubiak’s layered paintings and aquarelles evoke fleeting landscapes where abstraction and figuration coexist in delicate tension. Taniguchi’s modular sculptures reveal the hidden beauty of cracks, seams, and intersections between nature and the urban environment. Lecompte’s layered canvases build depth through overpainting, colour, and texture, inviting close observation and contemplation.
Traces of Common Ground reflects on the connections that quietly bind us. In a world where distance and difference often feel vast, these works remind us of the invisible threads linking us — the currents, residues, and marks that interconnect our shared space and experience.
