In October 2024, Bert De Geyter spent a month in Lanzarote as an artist in residence at Hektor. A special place on this breathtaking island.
"I didn't have a concrete plan, but I did have the idea of discovering this new place in the slowest way possible: on foot. The long walks, observations, sketches and notes I made gradually formed the basis for new work. In Lanzarote itself, I already created three series on paper." - Bert De Geyter.
Back in his studio in Ghent, it became clear that the "island of eternal spring" had gotten under his skin and the impressions were really starting to sink in. This resulted in several new series and individual works. They form the heart of this solo exhibition, which is named after the place of residence. Hektor, Lanzarote.
"This place rejects any scale but the measure of itself. Vast in every detail, it is tinily immense."
