LISE LOU SORE:
I was born in Niger, where I grew up as an expat child in the warmth of a tight community, until a move to the Netherlands ended this life abruptly. This feeling of uprooting and adjusting is a recurring theme in my work.
Identity, loss and connection are constants in my work. I currently draw monumental self-portraits on transparent cheesecloth that float in space and constantly change. My installations are not objects to own, but rather are a way to immerse yourself in my emotional landscape. You can view them as a comprehensive experience of my most vulnerable moments. Through this process, I am able to research the way in which art is not a physical, but an emotional transfer. Can viewers take responsibility for something that is not concrete? In my search for emotional connection I invite the viewer to join me and to carry my burden.
I present ‘Intertwined Surroundings’: a comprehensive installation that will transport you into my memories of Niger. On the walls, a landscape opens up, drawn on cloth. A blend of landscapes surrounding my home. The unpredictable, temporary nature is a reflection of how an emotional landscape changes.
