At Art Rotterdam 2025, Rosie's will present works by Rob Bouwman, Gijs van Lith and Daan Samson. Both Gijs and Rob are painters, while Daan is a self-proclaimed prosperity-artists who combines botanical draughtsmanship with performative elements. You can find us in the main section, booth H8.
Gijs will show two recent works, in which he explores the connotation of the landscape in relation to a bold, process-based strain of abstraction. A dense surface of paint that references hills, mountains and the sky as much as it does the late Karel Appel and Cézanne.
Rob on the other hand, is interested in pinpointing that what constitutes as a creative act. Not a moment of representation but the exact moment when paint becomes a painting. When does matter take on the shape of art and when do we, as an audience, start responding to a painted surface? Using self-devised techniques Rob creates silky smooth works in oil on wooden panels. Using these paintings as a starting point, all kinds of media are explored, such as print, textile works, video and most recently: wallpaper.
Daan will present four new works from his 'prosperity biotopes' series. In these pieces, Daan combines scientifically accurate drawn representations of certain very specific biotopes, with man-made consumer design items. A thriving ecological system is offset by an air filterer or milk foamer. At Art Rotterdam he will present four digitized drawings that represent the life cycle of flora and fauna who use the destructive force of fire as a catalyst for their growth and reproduction. With these works, Daan tries to suggest that perhaps everything is part of the same whole rather than subject to a divide between 'nature' and 'man'.
