You are cordially invited to the opening of "Provocative and poetic: on the connecting power of art as ritual" in the gallery on Saturday 2 November from 5 to 7 pm.
We find ourselves in the midst of the tumult of uncertain times: what we think we know is faltering, it feels as if the future is elusive. At the same moment, time seems to have no time to become history. Does the idea of change offer certainty? When we find ourselves in a liminal period, in the transformation from one thing to another, a moment arises that can generate fear and the desire for a (false) hold.
Rituals and myths connect us to the unknown, which can be a way to make the world a reliable place. In Provocative and poetic: on the connecting power of art as ritual, the works of Pélagie Gbaguidi, Krystel Geerts, Lisa Konno, Rita Ponce de Léon, Marien Schouten, and Tessa Weijers present themselves as a visual platform for an open contemplation – not only of the current state of our being (in the vacuum of passage) – but also of the idea that art can function as a ritual that marks change. The exhibition is a plea for looking, for beauty, and for reconsidering our own history, both in content and form, in order to generate a different perspective.
