UNSEEN 2024 short presentation description of booth 8
A prominent eye catcher is a free-standing work by Louise te Poele: a wagging horse tail sculpture, placed in front of her corner of the booth so that the works on the wall reflect in its mirror pedestal, by which these enter into a playful dialogue with the mirrored sculpture. Louise takes her inspiration from modern life, in which we see the boundaries blurring between real and fake, virtual and physical.
The intimate photograms by Charlotte Koenen hang on the back wall. These photograms of wood shavings focus on materiality to create abstract images which bear witness to a making process, remnants of the transition from raw material to refined workmanship.
These photograms are being flanked on both side walls by the colorful photographs by Tony Dočekal. Set against the backdrop of the American West, Tony explores the connection between self-identity and how society defines success. These works challenge the relentless pursuit of achievement in our capitalist landscape. Responding to encounters with those who deviate from the conventional path, the narrative unfolds as a speculative road movie, blurring the line between reality and imagination.
