His work is rough, bold and exciting but at the same time it is soft, transparent and calm in character. The tension of the gesture.
Henri Wagner's new solo show 'Airy Spaces II' in gallery Helder is a follow-up to the exhibition of the same name some three years ago. Almost all of his latest works are also made with the 'sous verre' technique, a way of painting backwards on glass. The front of the work therefore shows all the first steps on the glass carrier, behind and next to which the subsequent layers are visible. The images of the past, transparent through the glass, are now making way for more closed forms in stronger, mutually communicating colours.
