Opening on 2.9.2023 at 16.00. Lenny van Gent will read from her own work.
When I asked Romee van Oers and Katrien Vogel if they wanted to exhibit together (they already knew each other's work), they were immediately enthusiastic. To get themselves an idea of the possibilities, they went to each other's studios and talked about their work and characteristic similarities. The title of this exhibition 'The space between things' was therefore conceived by them together.
As they put it themselves: 'On the way to the exhibition and in visiting each other's studios, we envisioned an exhibition that would have a certain receptivity in it, space towards each other by making open spaces more present.'
There is plenty of space in the work, but in addition, simplicity should emerge in a certain looseness of presentation. This allows thoughts to flow again, to see what previously eluded you. Hecticity and busyness already characterise our times enough.
In both Romee van Oers' and Katrien Vogel's work, we experience the space between things.
Romee van Oers on her work:
'I like openness in my work. The forms have the suggestion of being able to move. I like the space between things.
The shapes I use for my paintings are based on observation. I look at how tangible shapes are together. How one touches the other, or just barely. Their postures, the way they are bent.
I see the painting as an open space in which I place the shapes one by one, looking for the right moment of coming together. '
Katrien Vogel on her work:
'With me, space is often literally in the objects, adding and taking away. Light I want them to be my objects, both from the paper and the polyester.
Aware of continuous lines, growth and traditions, moving with the times.'
