We are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of Margaret Lansink at Bildhalle Amsterdam. The title Friction refers to her recent works, which will be shown besides older works to illustrate her masterful handling of varied techniques like platinum palladium prints, collages, liquid light prints and works with gold leaf and charcoal. Thematically, it follows the group exhibition Coming to Light presented in the lower part of the gallery. The print techniques and craftsmanship are an important part of all artistic works on show which underlines and supports the meaning of the works.
The latest series Friction embraces the unavoidable change and the impermanence of life. Margaret Lansink has portraited professional ballet dancers who retired at the age of 35. These images are linked to the pictures of the Death Valley in California emblematic for their timeless beauty. The connection between these two different pictures should inspire the viewer to flow with the everchanging world. Margaret Lansink’s work is created around a strong signature of aesthetic, poetic and slightly minimalistic images yet all able to convey a powerful emotional message. This is substantiated by her usage of intuitive photography, creating imagery that presents an open and honest ref- lection of her emotions, doubts, reflections or struggles in life.
Margaret Lansink (1961) has participated in exhibitions, residencies, and competitions in The Netherlands and ab- road, including the USA, France, Japan, and Georgia. She has published eight books (four of them handmade by herself). The Kindness of One has been awarded Best Dutch Book Designs 2019 and is part of the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Bookstore. Her books Borders of Nothingness - On the Mend as well as The Kindness on One are part of the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Margaret Lansink is member of Femmes- PHOTOgraphes Paris.
