This solo exhibition will be open until April 30.
The shadow, as an element in an image, is often obliterated into the backdrop. The same can be described for the representation of the people of African backgrounds and ethnicities. Like shadow, Africa and the African people are often portrayed as a single entity – without nuances and in such a way that dismisses any individuality and variety of the African regions and cultures. Dicko’s most recent series, The Shadowed People, is a reflection of his years of research that includes a combination of clichés that is so adeptly subverted through his photographic creations.
