For Art Rotterdam 2022 Singular-Art will present a duo
presentation of work by Meg Forsyth (1984, Miami, FL) and Nora Aurrekoetxea (1989, Bilbao). Both artists share a fascination for physical intimacy. Their practices revolve around the proximity of the Other and touching surfaces.
Meg contrasts the controlled gestures one can find within the context of a hospital - from sterilisation to surgical procedures - with the uncontrollable world of micro-organisms. She describes a certain emotional harmory in relation to the urge to control all (microscopic) life that surrounds us. She will show a selection of recent paintings in addition to drawings from her 'Observers' series. This latter body of work was born from the wish for an audience during the lockdown. They are imagined spectators who will occupy the role of silent observers within the booth installation.
Nora is interested in that which takes place in between a physical need for intimacy and the way this urge is translated into language. She makes sculptural and performative installations in which (un)answered love and complex relationships are elaborated upon. She will show a selection of work from the series 'I bought flowers for myself'. In this work she relates the ornament to desire, transience
and connection.
The walls of the booth will be adjusted in a way that will offer the visitor a cocoonish experience. On the curved walls we will present the organic-graphic works by Meg. Meanwhile, the metal pokes from Nora's installation will pierce through the delicate walls of the cocoon
