Armed with sharp pencils, Niels Janssen consistently processes his impressions as if writing a diary. He makes crowded drawings in both small and large format. Especially in black and white, but also with colour, everything is composed into a multi-sided composition.
These daily impressions vary from political and social engagement to his innermost feelings and everything is permeated with a good dose of humour. After a careful look, the information in those formations appears to be increasingly complex and universal. The whole looks like a puzzle in which you always see recognizable fragments looming up.
There are several ways to approach his work; zooming in closely or looking at it from a certain distance, but both provide wonderful fascinations. His latest works have more colour, yet the compositions remain soft and subdued. And the strong spatial composition always carries you easily into the complete maze of associative scenes.
