OPENING: Saturday 4 September 5 - 7 PM
The solo exhibition 'You're right!' is an exhibition with canvases about fundamental matters. What is a scribble? What happens if you act first and then think. Or in general: what is and does an artist's hand that knows more than the artist himself.
The doodles and scribbles that are shown in 'You're right!' were initially made quickly and then thickened and stylized with oil paint. The original speed of the pencil or felt-tip pen with which the canvas was occupied has been given a thoughtful delay in the final result. Sometimes a scribble with a cross is frowned upon, it seems. At other times a new scribble is superimposed over another, at other times it seems as if a pen has been tried to see if it writes.
The way the canvases are installed in the gallery space gives the impression that the artist did not know which canvases to hang and which not. It is the certainty of the uncertainty that makes this exhibition an outspoken matter.
