Jan is fascinated by the night and that which is not supposed to be. Like gardening at night. In his NightGardeners series, he elaborates on memories and experiences, which he lets lead a life of his own. With almost Spartan discipline, he reconstructs the deformation in a miniscule model. “I often start with an existing memory, mostly from my childhood, and then give reality a twist. Because our memory does the same. We color our memories. ”
Control over the alienation
With his models, Jan controls the bizarre own life that thoughts can lead. A concession-free control. If the image does not match his image, he does not use it. In the end he included half of his sculptures in the collection.
His cinematic work is still under the radar, but is now also picked up by online media outlets such as Vice-ID and Der Spiegel. In March 2018 he was published as a talent to discover at Foto Knokke-Heist, Unknown Masterpieces.
