In this show we investigate the fascination of the Dutch for the cultural richness and poverty of the United States. We yearn for the celebrity cult and lifestyle of L.A. At the same time we are amazed by the religious fanaticism.
The exhibition will be on view physically and virtually. We are happy to welcome visitors by appointment in the gallery and we will place a digital tour on our website. Also we invite you to take part in our opening, which will be live streamed on Instagram. In addition we will be sharing behind-the-scenes videos on our new channel Fleur & Wouter TV.
Sam Andrea shows original linocuts about a hell ride along places in, and memories of the USA. Present, past and fantasy are interwoven. They are nightmares about shootings and dreams about a Heaven motel. The power of violence and fear and the romance of the landscape come together in this series called 'an American dream'.
A new face in the gallery is Koos Buster. He made ceramic works about iconic objects from the American consumer society. Think of a packet of Marlboro cigarettes and a bottle of Coca Cola. Also on display are plates based on Dutch porcelain, about American villains like President Trump and Harvey Weinstein. They are part of the series 'ornamental plates with almost everything Koos Buster doesn't like'.
Cleo Goossens shows us the romantic side of America, as we know it from Hollywood movies. Her photographs are images she came across on her travels along the West Coast. As a whole, they form mysterious clues to a story whose meaning you can fill in yourself. During the exhibition, Cleo will also publish her first photography book, 'Route du Soleil', with an overview of images she has made over the past ten years.
