Art Rotterdam 2020
Booth 74
with work by Roosmarijn Pallandt, Esther Kokmeijer, Natascha Libbert and Anouk Griffioen
During Art Rotterdam 2020 Gallery Vriend van Bavink is proud to present work by four artists whose images invite reflection about nature and humanity’s impact on the natural world. Esther Kokmeijer, Roosmarijn Pallandt, Natascha Libbert, and Anouk Griffioen each in their own way contribute to a visual understanding of what has come to be called the Anthropocene, the epoch of the human, in which humanity is a geological force of a global magnitude. Their work shares a deep curiosity about our entangled relationship to nature. The human desire to understand its relation with nature and the force of nature comes across in the beautiful works in the presentation.
Roosmarijn Pallandt will exhibit new photographic works made in Japan. She focuses on the materiality of the image by experimenting with vintage photographic printing techniques, such as platinum and carbon printing. Esther Kokmeijer presents photographic work, sculptures, collages and an installation that shows a manifestation of water that has been discovered only recently. Kokmeijer’s installation consists of a machine creating a floating water bridge between two glasses. Natascha Libbert shows photographs that can look innocent at first sight but upon closer viewing show the traces left in nature by man. For her most recent series she traveled to Florida, Spain, and Cyprus. Anouk Griffioen shows large charcoal drawings relate to the tension between man, nature, city and landscape. During Art Rotterdam we will show one such drawing on canvas as preview for her upcoming gallery show at Gallery Vriend van Bavink opening on 21 February 2020.
