We are happy to present sculptural works by Berlin based artist Lisa Tiemann together with photographs by Jenna Westra, who lives and works in New York, at this year's Art Rotterdam.
Indoor sculptures made from ceramic and paper maché as well as outdoor sculptures made from powder-coated steel and concrete are part of Lisa Tiemann's (*1981) series 'Couples'. They bend, stretch and interact - with their surroundings, with the beholders, and with each other. The artist explores the tension between two elements of different materiality and the limits of material properties, stability, and gravity.
In her work, photographer Jenna Westra (*1986) focuses on images of the female body, creating a safe visual space that transforms seemingly accidental or chance movements into intentional, choreographed actions for the camera. Taking aesthetic cues from performance documentation and postmodern dance, she invites the viewer to re-examine their role in the dynamics of image production and consumption.
