Our gallery program focuses on painting that is anchored in a historical context while being contemporary, refreshing and appealing. For this edition of Art Rotterdam, we have selected works belonging to the New Figuration. In the early 1960s, a group of artists from the Netherlands and Belgium introduced figurative elements into painting with renewed interest. This movement is also considered the European counterpart of American Pop Art. In this context, we are showing works from the sixties by Raoul De Keyser (1930 - 2012) and Lucassen (1939). At the same time, we are showing works related to the New Figuration by Klaas Gubbels (1934).
In addition, we show works by our gallery artists that we take with us year after year and who, like the artists of the New Figuration, are able to convince with images that are averse to contemporary transience. Paintings by Emo Verkerk (1955), Bob Bonies (1937), Morgan Betz (1974), Rob Birza (1962) and Jan Van Den Dobbelsteen (1954) complete our stand.
