On Sunday 14 January, Project 2.0 Gallery in The Hague will open a solo exhibition of Sanja Marušić. The exhibition forms a sequel to her successful show 'Out of This World', which was on display at the Netherlands Photo Museum in Rotterdam last year.
“I appreciate it when art forms a world of its own, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the mind of an artist. When you show the world as it is, everyone recognises it. It becomes fascinating when you change things. Consequently, my task doesn’t end when I have taken the photograph. I digitally remove elements afterward to make the image more abstract and add colours. This process feels very liberating, like a child working on a colouring page. I really enjoy this childlike approach to my work.”
Marušić studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where she won the award for the best graduation project. Additionally, she was nominated for the Paul Huf Award and the Picto Prix de La Mode from the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. Her work has been featured in various institutions including Foam Amsterdam, the Mauritshuis and the Van Gogh Museum. The Netherlands Photo Museum has included several of her works in its collection, with one of them permanently displayed in the Gallery of Honor of Dutch Photography. In 2023, the artist released the book "The Endless Coloured Ways" in collaboration with Hannibal Books.
