On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September, GalleryViewer and Amsterdam Art invite you to the opening of the new Gallery Season. During this festive weekend, Amsterdam-based galleries will open their doors to the public with their first exhibition of the season. Once again, you can familiarize yourself with the help of an online catalogue, a map, and guided tours. The tours are organised by Amsterdam Art and will start in the galleries this year. The online catalogue, which includes all the exhibited artworks, will go live on GalleryViewer on Saturday 2 September. The participating galleries have extended opening hours and will be open on Friday evening 8 September from 5 PM to 9 PM and on Saturday 9 September from 12 PM to 6 PM.
In addition to the exhibitions, various galleries organise intriguing side programs during the Opening of the Gallery Season, which add depth to the exhibition or offer something completely new. Below, you'll find a selection.
Opening by Benno Tempel In Kersgallery
From Friday evening (17.00-21.00), Kersgallery will show an exhibition by David Bade and Tirzo Martha, who will show their latest collaborative project. Their work can be seen in various places this summer: in the Kunsthal and ARTZUID, as well as in the Cobra Museum, in Museum Jan Cunen and in Voorhout Monumentaal. Their exhibition in Kersgallery will be officially opened on Saturday at 4 PM by art historian Benno Tempel, who recently announced that he is making the switch from Kunstmuseum Den Haag to the Kröller-Müller Museum after nearly fifteen years.
Ahmed Emin Batman in GoMulan Gallery
GoMulan Gallery has invited Ahmed Emin Batman for an Artist Talk on Sunday 10 September at 3 PM. Batman is a familiar face on social media and many people will know him for his work for the Stedelijk Museum. At the moment, he works as a Beeldbreker and content creator for the Van Gogh Museum, which tries to appeal to a new generation of young people. The Beeldbrekers offer new perspectives on the collection and the life of Van Gogh, but also, for example, on the work of Etel Adnan, which was on display in the museum last year. In GoMulan Gallery, Batman, an artist himself as well as an architect-in-the-making, speaks to artist Natasja Alers as part of the finissage of her duo exhibition 'Metamorphosis' (with Jarik Jongman). Tip: that conversation will also be available (live) on GoMulan Gallery's Instagram account.
Meet the artists in tegenboschvanvreden
tegenboschvanvreden and Galerie Onrust invited artists Toon Verhoef and Ana Navas to create an exhibition together, a unique experiment and collaborative project. During the opening of 'mano a mano' on 8 September, both artists will be present in counterboschvanvreden to speak about their work.
Artist Talk with Margaret Lansink in Bildhalle
Margaret Lansink presents her first solo exhibition in Bildhalle (Willemsparkeweg 134) until 9 September, and during the Opening of the Gallery Season, Bildhalle organises a special Artist Talk on that last day at 5 PM, during which she enters into a conversation with Gili Crouwel.
The winners in Galerie Ron Mandos
For the sixteenth time, Galerie Ron Mandos presents a selection of talented graduating artists in the gallery, as part of the Ron Mandos Young Blood Foundation. The participating artists receive a platform to show their work and also have a chance to win the Ron Mandos Young Blood Award, the Residency Award (at AVL Mundo), the Photo Talent Award and the Public Choice Award. The work of the winner of the Young Blood Award will be included in the permanent collection of Museum Voorlinden and the winner of the Photo Talent Award will be allowed to present their work at Unseen. You can meet the winners on Saturday 9 September between 2 and 4 PM. In that time frame, they will talk about their work in a speed date with visitors.
