Ascension Day 2022 in Antwerp: Ballroom Project & Antwerp Art Weekend
Antwerp Art Weekend (26-29 May, 2022) opens each year on Ascension Day and has been promoting Antwerp as a leading centre for international contemporary art since 2014. Every year, Ballroom Project coincides with Antwerp Art Weekend, in which more than 70 locations in and outside Antwerp participate.

On Wednesday 25 May, one day before the preview of Art Antwerp, the fourth offline edition of Ballroom Project took place. A small-scale event on the border between a curated exhibition and a commercial platform, but without the well-known 'art fair' feeling. In a creative and collegial way the initiators (Bart Vandenbiesen of Base-Alpha Gallery and Ida Wollens of DMW Gallery) strive for a more intensive cooperation between the Antwerp art world on the one hand and the Dutch and Belgian (non-Antwerp) galleries on the other hand.

In this way, Ballroom Project offers art lovers, art professionals, collectors and artists a unique opportunity to discover what is going on in the field of contemporary art in the Netherlands and Belgium in an extremely accessible and welcoming way. This year, Ballroom Project will again take place in the BorGerHub, the former courthouse of Borgerhout, located on the Turnhoutsebaan 92.

This elegant 'Maison de Maître', situated on Turnhoutsebaan, the main street of Borgerhout, is within walking distance of Antwerp Central Station. Borgerhout is currently undergoing a major growth in quality due to the presence of a number of leading galleries such as Zeno-X, DMW Gallery, Base-Alpha Gallery, Gallery Zeit, Eva Steynen.Deviations and Ingrid Deuss. The exhibition spaces have a warm, homely atmosphere in contrast to the usually white cube galleries.
