Willem Boel is a Belgian (Sint-Niklaas, °83) artist based in Ghent, Belgium.
Since 2009, Willem Boel has been working on an interdisciplinary body of work, with a focus on installation. His in-situ installations and two-dimensional works focus mainly on the three-dimensional. Boel creates industrial iron and skeletal steel structures that act as carriers of visual information where the open structures bear witness to an industrial history. They bear the marks of intensive labour and repetitive actions.
His works are mainly exhibited in Belgium, but Willem Boel has already participated in more than 70 solo and group exhibitions across Europe. In 2019 he was present with work at the Biennale of Belgium and in 2020 he participated in both Lithuania and Mexico a group show. Willem Boel has received multiple awards and grants for his work.
