Anton Cotteleer (°1974) studied sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, and became a laureate of the HISK – Higher Institute for Fine Arts in 2000.
Ever since the start of his artistic career in the late 1990s, the artist has opted for thorough research into the medium of sculpture. This search results in a layered and coherent oeuvre. However, he does not allow himself to be limited by a static and unchanging visual language, but continually looks for other possibilities and new sources of inspiration.
In his sculptures he transforms human and animal forms and everyday elements from the traditional 'Flemish' living room into strange surreal objects. The artist repeatedly uses (pre-Ikea) objects and motifs from the domestic sphere, but also refers to examples from and references to the history of sculpture.
