HERO proudly presents Permanent Wave, a solo show of new work by Gerald Van Der Kaap. The exhibition comprises a series of new, large scale photographic works that extend some of the key, formal and material characteristics of the giant work Van Der Kaap created in the Europaplein station of the Amsterdam Metro line.
To create the new photographic works, Van Der Kaap logged into the black box in which all his digital files since the early 1990s have been stored. Landscapes in particular: skies, screendumps of early computer desktops, waterlilies, noise, photos of trees (manipulated in a sketchy way, unfinished), filmstills. Files with different creation dates have been unlocked, some seen and read for the very first time. Mined from the black hole of memory. Some files had to be converted via a detour. Some works became works in works, captioned with multiple dates.
