Hands Act (the lightest of lights and the darkest of darks)', 2014

In 'Hands Act' Antonis Pittas combines the imagery of hands by Bauhaus architect Herbert Bayer with newspaper photographs of tie-wrapped doctors who, in accordance with the oath they took, helped injured protesters in Istanbul. With the photos, Pittas creates a work that shows the limitation of freedom and the failure of early modernist ideologies of a better world. Pittas photographed his own fingers tied together showing that also the expression of the artists are also limited.
