Stan Klamer (1951) conceives drawing and painting as a form of cartography. The topographic map thus becomes a metaphor for reality in which the artist records and documents his own world. Over the past few years, water and ships have played an increasingly important role in his work. His studio overlooks the river IJ in Amsterdam where every day boats and ships of all sorts pass by.
