On the backside of a traditional framed oilpaintingwe see a hectometer number. This numberingis used along provincial roads and highways to make places easily traceable. In this form the anonymous painted number changes in a symbol of dissappearance. The marked spot now represents a definite lost landscape and lost references, which are visible at the frontside of the oilpainting, but which are for ever turned away from us.
From the series Blind Spot: N638
The painting contains the number of the road that cuts the track Van Gogh oftyen walked through the heathland from Roosendaal to his birthplace Zundert.
